Three Auburn Firefighters Promoted to New Leadership Positions

AUBURN, NY — August 27, 2026 — Following recent promotions within the department, three members of the Auburn Fire Department received official recognition on Thursday nite at a meeting of the Auburn City Council.


With effect from June 4, 2026, Matthew Quill, a former captain, was elevated to assistant chief. On June 28, 2026, Patrick Whelan, a former lieutenant, received a promotion to captain. On July 21, 2026, Michael Dahl, a former firefighter, was promoted to lieutenant.


During the council meeting, the three officers were formally acknowledged and pinned, signifying the public's acceptance of their new roles and duties. Auburn City Council typically convenes at Memorial City Hall on Thursdays at 5 p.m., the city confirmed. The department congratulated Assistant Chief Quill, Captain Whelan and Lieutenant Dahl, noting that their new positions carry greater leadership responsibilities and a continued commitment to the members of the department and the Auburn community.
