On July 8, the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a working house fire in the Bay Shore neighborhood of Penataquit Point.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered an active fire and promptly verified that every resident had left the house safely. In order to stop the fire from spreading further, crews extended attack lines. Three cats were safely removed from the house by firefighters during operations.
After suffering a slight burn, one firefighter was taken to a burn center for assessment. The Suffolk County Arson Squad and the Islip Town incident Marshal's Office are still looking into what caused the incident, and several nearby agencies offered assistance to one another.
