Hackensack Annual Memorial
Photo by RON JEFFERSHackensack firefighters, active and retired, family, friends and local officials gathered at Fairmont Park for the annual memorial to honor members who gave their lives in the line-of-duty, and for all deceased members of the department. On July 1, 1988, five city firefighters were killed battling a fast-moving fire that involved an auto dealership on River Street. They were: Captain Richard Williams, Lt. Richard Reinhagen, and Firefighters William Krejsa, Leonard Radumski and Steven Ennis. Several members of the fire department have also fallen due to 9-11 related cancers. This marked the first memorial where there were no longer any active duty members that served in 1988. Never Forget.
