York, Maine — July 4 — The York Fire Department commemorated the 52nd anniversary of Lt. Wayne Fuller's line-of-duty death. Fuller was the only fireman in the department to pass away while serving the city. On July 4, 1974, Fuller, 29, was killed in a car accident while responding to a reported structure fire. In addition to honoring his service, the annual memorial acknowledged the dangers firefighters faced when responding to crises.
Members of the department reiterated their dedication to community protection while reflecting on Fuller's enduring legacy. Generations of York firemen have continued to commemorate his sacrifice as a significant part of the department's history.
