Littleton Fire Rescue Trains for Swiftwater Emergencies

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Members of Littleton Fire Rescue held their monthly training session during the third week of June, concentrating on swiftwater rescue operations along the Ammonoosuc River.

Recent rainfall, according to officials, made it possible for firemen to exercise in a setting that is comparable to what they could confront during genuine water rescue events. River crossings, throw bag deployments, self-rescue methods, and the rescue of a fictitious victim stuck on a rock were just a few of the skills that crews practiced.

Department leaders noted that regular hands-on training is essential for maintaining proficiency and ensuring firefighters can safely and effectively respond to water-related emergencies. The session provided members with valuable experience operating in moving water while reinforcing teamwork and rescue procedures.
