Union City Fire with Rescue
Photo by RON JEFFERSShortly after 6 a.m., May 21st, North Hudson fire units were dispatched to an AFA run on the 400-block of 32nd St., Union City. Upon arrival, smoke was discovered in the three-story mixed occupancy building, and the running assignment was filled out. Smoke was rising into the apartments above, and the fire was located in the rear of a restaurant on the ground floor. While members forced entry into the restaurant, other firefighters conducted a primary search. An elderly man was found in bed in his smoke-filled apartment, and was carried out to safety. The victim was turned over to city EMS personnel and transported to a local hospital. The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.
