Avon Fire Department Awarded SAFE Grants

The Avon Fire Department announced on April 27 that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has awarded it two grants for fire safety education.


A $3,422.98 Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) Grant and a $1,747.50 Senior SAFE Grant were granted to the department. According to officials, the money would support life and fire safety education initiatives for senior citizens and students.


The monies will be used to distribute safety materials around the community, train people in emergency preparedness, educate people about cooking safety, and prevent fires. According to officials, the initiatives are intended to lessen fire-related fatalities and injuries by means of proactive outreach.
