North Hudson firefighters
Photo by RON JEFFERSIn February, numerous mutual aid fire companies from Bergen, Essex and Union counties moved into North Hudson when the regional fire department experienced two 5-alarm-plus fires at the same time. One in West New York and the other in Union City. The mutual aid companies either went to work at a fire or re-located to houses and answered numerous other alarms. The local firefighters heard many questions from the out-of town members on how do they cope with, and operate on, such narrow and congested streets? An example of what is routine along these streets occurred on March 15th when North Hudson firefighters removed a Super Vac fan from Ladder 1's compartment, up and over a parked car and outrigger, during a working fire on Sip Street in Union City.
