As fire involved the second-floor of a Wade Street home, and rapidly extended to the attic, Jersey City's first arriving engine companies came across two blocked fire hydrants on each side of the block, in 25-degree weather. First water was imperative to attack the fire. Engine Co. 13 members took out the window of a parked auto to access their hydrant. Engine Co. 22 went over the car blocking their hydrant with front suction hose, for a water supply. A second-alarm was transmitted for the labor intensive fire on January 22nd.
