Oldest FDNY firefighter passes away

Retired First Grade Firefighter Anthony Aquaro passed away at the age of 103 on Jan.12, 2025. Firefighter Aquaro was a World War 2 veteran and was sworn into the NYC Fire Dept. in 1953. He served with Engine 269 and was on the scene in 1960 when an airliner crashed in Brooklyn. He is pictured with his wife, Gloria, in 2023. The couple had been married for 80 years and lived on Staten Island for 60 years.
