DOWNS: A fire raced through three High St. buildings in Passaic, June 23rd, that displaced dozens of residents, according to News 12.  

               

UPS: New Ewing Township firefighters are: Elizabeth Budge, William Person, Franklin Armstrong, Dade Rudzitis, Andre DeSantos, William Walker, Nykai Rambharan and William Sotovano. 

               

DOWNS: A Camden firefighter suffered head and neck injuries while battling a fire at the Community Meadows Apartments, on South 8th St., June 28th.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to WPVI-TV.   

               

UPS: Bernard Walker was sworn in as the new fire chief in Ocean City, June 27th.  John Quigley, Jr. was promoted to battalion chief and Ryan Stamm is the new captain. 

               

DOWNS: A six-year-old girl was killed in a fire that consumed an Avenue C dwelling in Bayonne, July 2nd.  Firefighters were informed that a person was trapped on the second-floor.  Due to heavy fire and a stairwell collapse, they used ground ladders to locate the victim, according to WABC-TV.  The victim was deceased.  

               

UPS: Edward Gallone has been promoted to battalion chief in Teaneck.  John Annillo is the new captain, and William Lynn was promoted to lieutenant.  

               

DOWNS: A car crashed into a Ridge Rd. home in South Brunswick, June 29th, narrowly missing a father and son watching TV.  Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith and his 5-year-old son were in the living room, just feet away from where the car crashed through the home, according to WABC-TV.  

               

UPS: The Chatham Borough V.F.D. honored Chief Peter Glogolich by naming him the Grand Marshal of the local Independence Day Parade.  Glogolich has been a member of the department for 42-years.  He served as fire chief from 2002 to 2014 and then again in 2023, according to Tap Into Chatham.  

              

DOWNS: A fire raced through a Water St. dwelling in Perth Amboy on July 4th.  Arriving police officers found four people trying to escape through back windows.  Police Chief Larry Cattano said the officers helped people escape the blaze from the third and fourth floors.  Two police officers were taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries. 

              

UPS: Camden firefighters rescued two people from a Collings Rd. row home, that was divided into two apartments, July 9th, according to WCAU-TV. Their conditions were not known.

              

DOWNS: A Carteret resident suffered serious injuries as the result of a fire in a dwelling at Roosevelt and Hayward Ave.'s, July 7th.  Firefighters located the victim in the basement, where the fire was believed to have started.  The victim suffered extensive burns and was airlifted to the St. Barnabas Burn Center, according to News 12.  Two other occupants were able to escape without injury.  One Carteret EMT was treated for smoke inhalation.  

              

UPS: Michael Boudaher has been promoted to battalion chief in Passaic. Mark Mastaj and Hershel Rawls IV were promoted to fire captain.  Justin Jones and Beda Baytista are the new lieutenants. 

              

DOWNS: The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said that “a fireworks device” set alight in the Wharton State Forest, started a fire that consumed over 4,000 acres, July 4th

              

UPS: New firefighters in Passaic are Ronald Josselyn, Michael Imperiosi and Hector De La Cruz. 

              

DOWNS: A natural gas main was ruptured by a crew doing work on a water line, at 26th St. & Summit av., that forced the evacuation of 700 people in densely populated Union City, July 11th.  Students attending summer programs in a high school and grammar school were evacuated along with occupants of approximately ten other buildings, according to North Hudson Fire Chief David Donnarumma.     

              

UPS: On July 12th, the Passaic Fire Department swore in two new department chaplains.  They are Father Javier Bareno and Jose M. Zuniga.

               

DOWNS: In July, Vincent “Chief” Dransfield, 110, passed away.  According to The Record, he was the oldest man in New Jersey and one of the oldest men in the United States.  In addition, he was the oldest living active firefighter in the country, still showing up for calls at Singac Volunteer Fire Co. 3, in Little Falls, as recently as 2019.  “His knowledge, guidance and friendship are something that will be missed forever,” was noted on the company's Facebook page.      

                

UPS: The Union Fire Department will receive a $75,000 grant from the American Rescue Plan (ARP).  The funds will help acquire new turnout gear and a state-of-the-art extractor washing machine to remove contaminants from the gear, according to Chief Greg Ricciardi. 

                

DOWNS: Two buildings burned on the 200 block of South Orange av., Newark, July 10th, displacing 33 adults and 16 children.  The 3-alarm fire also sent three firefighters to the hospital, according to News 12.  

                

UPS: Hackensack will receive more than $250,000 by way of a Fire Grants Safety Act.  The funding will be used for state-of-the-art swift water and boat training to help city firefighters respond to and rescue people during flood emergencies, according to News 12.  

                

DOWNS: A woman was transported to St. Barnabas M.C. with smoke inhalation and burns to her feet and hands as the result of a fire in a Third av. mixed occupancy building in Elizabeth, July 22nd.  Firefighters said at least two people were displaced.

                

UPS: In July, Lodi ex-Fire Chief Sal Paci was honored for his 50-years of service to the department.  His photo is now on display at Borough Hall.  

                 

DOWNS: Two dozen people were displaced due to a fire in a three-story building on Barbara St., Newark, July 22nd.  Authorities said numerous firefighters were treated for injuries and heat exhaustion. While battling the fire, firefighters encountered a collapsed staircase.  

                 

UPS: Jonathan Feinberg has been appointed as a probationary firefighter in Millburn.  

                 

DOWNS: A truck driver died after his tractor-trailer crashed into a barrier resulting in an explosion and fire on Route 3 in Clifton, July 22nd.  First responders encountered additional explosions, while on the scene.  The driver's body was discovered after the fire was brought under control.  Three nearby homes sustained exterior damage from the heat, according to Fire Chief Daniel Collins.  

                

UPS: New firefighters in North Hudson are: Miguel Santana, Ryan Hilliard-Baird, Ameedeldin Awadeh, James Sullivan, Jake Donnarumma, Ricardo Corado, Raymond Urquiza, Ignacio Trejo-Berrios and Christian Jones.
