On July 10th, the North Hudson Regional Fire Department swore in nine new firefighters. This was another boost to department manning since 22 new members were sworn in on April 8th. Of course, these ceremonies are special to the new firefighters and their families. It was especially special for some fire chiefs.
On this day, North Hudson Chief of Department David Donnarumma had the honor of swearing in his son, Jake, among the nine new probationary members. Chief Donnarumma started his career with the former North Bergen Fire Department. Jake's uncle, Michael, is a retired North Hudson fire captain (originally a North Bergen member).
Another part of the ceremony included promoting Firefighter John Dolaghan to the rank of captain. John's father, Thomas, was in attendance. He is a retired Harrison Chief of Department. John's brother, Tom, is a Jersey City firefighter assigned to Ladder Co. 12.
It didn't stop here. Christian Jones became a regional firefighter on this day. His father, Anthony, is a retired North Hudson fire captain (originally Union City). Christian's mother, Noreen Mimi Jones, recently retired as a supervising North Hudson fire alarm dispatcher, after 33-years of service. The new firefighter's uncle, Robert, is a retired regional firefighter (originally Union City).
In addition, Christian's grandfather, Robert, Sr., was the last Chief of Department in Union City, before the regional department was organized in 1999. The late Robert Jones, Sr., went on to become a co-chief of the new North Hudson department (1999-2001). The young department also appointed West New York Chief of Department Anthony Presutti as a co-Chief of Department (1999-2001), as the new fire department progressed, taking advantage of their knowledge and experience.
The new members have completed their firefighting training and have been assigned to tours with various companies. The first responder blue blood DNA continues.
