Support Businesses Owned By Emergency Responders
We are supposed to be a brotherhood, a family. Have we ever thought how we can support our family? There are plenty of emergency responders who may be struggling financially. Many of us may not receive a primary income from providing services as an emergency responder. We may be financially struggling and people may not know.
There may be some relief organizations out there, but many of us do not want to go and tell others, or worse, show others how much we may be in need. It is pride that we have that many times we do not ask for help.
There are emergency responders who may be plumbers, carpenters, accountants, restaurant owners or something else. I know that my father worked two jobs, just to keep us taken care of. Growing up I remember that my parents had the cars repaired by a firefighter, Johnny Sunoco, who owned a service station. I used to have a plumber work on my house, who was a fire chief from another town. When I was renting an apartment, the landlord told me that he was going to have the tile replaced in the bathroom. What I thought was funny was, the person doing the tiling was from my fire company. I wanted larger tile, the landlord wanted small. Needless to say, the larger tiles were installed.
Why is there not an emergency responders Yellow Book? Why don’t we have a listing of all companies owned and/or operated by emergency services? You may know someone in your fire company or department, but what about the services that you may need that is not known or found in your department. I think that it would be truly surprising to the public, if we had “Owned and operated by an Emergency Responder”.
Please support your fellow responder. You may not know how much giving business to them or sending business their way can mean to them.
I had a mechanic that we sat down and talked once in a while and he would tell me how things really were, for him and his family. There would be times that I would buy dinner for the family or anonymously slide some money to him.
Is there someone that you can at least encourage?
Maybe we should start an Emergency Responders Directory for services that they can provide.
I give you all the challenge.
Stay safe,
