FIRE TRUCK IS LOCATED IN ISLAMORADA, FL.

Inspection report of 2000 SUTPHEN: Model HS 3480, VIN#1S9A7LLD0Y1003035

This 2000 Sutphen was removed from service on 09/09/2018. It has 63,000 miles on it with a 60 series Detroit diesel engine, an Allison transmission and Hale QSM 1500 GPM pump. The engine was maintained every 180 days and has 3,500 hours. The engine and transmission run and shift properly with no unusual noises or leaking of fluids. The Hale pump, which was last tested on 12/20/2018, needs pump packing replaced. Brakes are drum type front and rear and work correctly, new tires were installed within the past year (2018) and are in excellent condition.

Truck has a 10Kw hydraulic generator that operates correctly. Truck is equipped with an elevated waterway built by Snozzle that is NOT operational due to electrical issues with the controls and water leak at the hydro swivel but the snozzle can be removed and the truck can operate without it.

Pump panel has several gauges that have no fluid in them some gauges do not show pressure. Several discharge valves leak-by when closed. The water level gauge does not show correct water level in tank.

The Detroit Diesel Fire Commander pressure governor does not work, pump pressure is now controlled by the use of toggle switches that have been installed to by-pass the DDFC. This set up works but may not be NFPA compliant.

Cab interior shows wear which is to be expected given the age of the truck. Air Conditioner blows cool but not cold, needs to be recharged with Freon, and a/c is missing grill covers to direct the air flow.

Switches and gauges operate correctly. Driver’s side seat belt needs to be replaced due to it getting caught in the door pin multiple times.

The truck is in FAIR condition for its age, body shows mild corrosion around windows with paint peeling from the aluminum due to oxidation. The emergency warning lights are intact and working as designed, DOT lighting is also intact and working with the exception of a few marker, rear brake, turn and back-up lights that have been updated to LED. Truck has the ability to be used as a First out truck with some minor repair and reconditioning.
