BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA: On December 8, 2009 at 4:55 a.m., the Goodwill-Frackville Fire Company, Englewood Fire Company and Minersville Ambulance were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a mini van and tractor trailer. The accident was reported to be just west of the High Ridge exit of Interstate 81 at mile maker 117. The 911 Center then received additional phone calls reporting the mini van was now on fire.
The State Police and Ambulance 52 arrived on scene first and found a mini-van on the roadway fully involved with fire. The driver of the mini-van was out of the vehicle and walking about the accident scene. The mini-van ran into the rear of a dump trailer.
The Minersville Ambulance crew stabilized and treated the injured driver.
Engine 43-10 arrived and staged in front of the burning mini-van. The crew from Engine 43-10 advanced a cross lay hose line and knocked down the fire. Englewood firefighters from Engine 369 assisted the Goodwill firefighters with advancing a second hose line.
The injured driver was then removed from the accident scene and transported to a local hospital.
The firefighters assisted the State Police with traffic control while the vehicles were removed from the scene.
The police believe the driver of the mini-van fell a sleep and ran into the trailer.
