SCHUYLKILL CO. – Just before 5AM on Sunday, November 18, Nuremberg-Weston Volunteer Fire Company, Nuremberg EMS, and Shenandoah ALS were dispatched to 572 Mountain Rd., North Union Twp., for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Medic 64, Engine 582, and BLS 971 responded to the scene. Deputy Chief Demshock (582) arrived on scene first and requested the county to call for an aero medical standby due to the extent of damage to the vehicle. The patient was found sitting on a nearby residence’s front porch with a significant head injury; there was also questionable loss of consciousness. Engine 582 arrived on scene and provided scene control and helped package the patient to a backboard. Medic 64 arrived on scene and requested any helicopter to fly; they were then advised that all services turned down the flight due to the snowy weather. The patient was loaded into Ambulance 971 and was transported to Hazleton General Hospital. Fire crews remained on scene for approximately an hour providing traffic control until the arrival of State Police and towing services.
